EA Playground brengt je plaatselijke speeltuin naar de huiskamer. Vele verschillende spelletjes die je normaal buiten zou doen zijn vertaald naar de DS. De besturing is daarbij zo eenvoudig mogelijk gehouden zodat spelers van alle leeftijden met dit spel overweg kunnen. Het spugen van spuugballetjes doe je bijvoorbeeld door in de microfoon te blazen.

Je kunt spellen als trefbal, knikkeren en skateboarden spelen tegen vrienden en familie, maar ook tegen gekke personages die je in het spel tegenkomt. Door te winnen van deze personages verdien je stickers. Ook kun je knikkers verdienen met mini-games die over de uitgebreide spelwereld zijn verspreid. Deze kun je vervolgens weer ruilen tegen hulpmiddelen die je kunt gebruiken bij de spellen.
