Eerste melk(Biest) heeft een hogere percentage immunoglobulinen en voedingsstoffen in vergelijking met normale koemelk. Het kalfje moet direct grote hoeveelheden colostrum opnemen. Dit is cruciaal voor hun verdere ontwikkeling, en kan je doen met Col-O-Dan, "kant en klare" biest, of van eigen koeien.

Het wordt aanbevolen om altijd een voorraadje hoogwaardige eerste melk te hebben door colostrumopslag te maken met bevroren colostrum.
Als de kwaliteit van het colostrum na de geboorte slecht is, of de geproduceerde hoeveelheid te laag is, kan in plaats daarvan colostrum worden gebruikt.

ColoStro Start set is de beste manier om pasgeboren kalveren te helpen van colostrum van eigen koeien te voorzien. De aluminium zakjes zijn gemakkelijk te vullen t/m 4 liter, en kunnen zonder problemen worden gepasteuriseerd, ingevroren, en opnieuw worden verwarmd.
Om het colostrum toe te dienen, schroeft je eenvoudig de drinkspeen of sproeisonde vast.
