Al meer dan 25 jaar komen Astrid en haar man Piet in Zweden. Vanaf het allereerste moment doet het land iets met ze. Al gauw ontstaat de wens om te emigreren naar het hoge noorden, maar om verschillende praktische redenen komt het er niet direct van.Toch laat het idee hen niet los en uiteindelijk gaan de twee actief op zoek naar een passende omgeving om te wonen en om iets op te zetten als bron van inkomsten.Na enkele keren bijna iets te hebben gevonden dat op het laatste moment afketst, belanden Astrid en Piet in de provincie Dalarna waar ze een eetcafe opzetten.We gaan naar Zweden! vertelt op meeslepende wijze het verhaal van een langgekoesterde wens die in vervulling gaat.
