We leven in een improvisatiemaatschappij. Die is even onvoorspelbaar als inspirerend. Ze genereert onbehagen, maar ook nieuwe dynamiek. Vooral van gemeenten wordt verwacht dat zij - dichtbij de zorgen én de kracht van mensen - tot nieuwe vormen van samenleven komen. Daarvoor is een nieuwe bestuursstijl nodig. Deze laat zich samenvatten in tien helder geformuleerde principes die zijn geÃ¯nspireerd op de metafoor van de jazzmuziek.Hans Boutellier is wetenschappelijk directeur van het Verwey-Jonker Instituut en bijzonder hoogleraar Veiligheid & burgerschap aan de VU Amsterdam. Hij publiceerde het spraakmakende boek De improvisatiemaatschappij (2011). In dit vervolg daarop zet Boutellier de consequenties voor het lokaal bestuur uiteen. Hij schreef eerder De Â¬veiligheidsutopie en Solidariteit en slachtofferschap. Zijn boeken verschenen ook in het Engels en Frans.
