De stagair van Barabas wordt op onverklaarbare wijze weggeflitst door de telefoonlijn. Met behulp van de teletijdsmachine vindt de prof hem terug in de nabije toekomst, hulpeloos drijvend in zee. Onze vrienden zetten meteen een reddingsactie op touw en reizen hem achterna. Eenmaal ter plaatse blijkt dat de grote delen van Europa door de opwarming van de aarde onder water zijn gelopen. De bevolking kan onder barre omstandigheden nauwelijks overleven. Zeker als blijkt dat de rijken al het schaarse land koste wat kost in hun bezit willen houden en niet terugdeinzen om daar wrede middelen voor te gebruiken. De armen krijgen dan weer hulp van een bizarre militaire organisatie, al zijn ze daar niet onverdeeld gelukkig mee.
