De historische familieroman 'Nobel hart' van Susan Anne Mason is deel 2 in een serie over de Ierse immigrantenfamilie O'Leary en het los te lezen vervolg op 'Boerendochters'. Maggie Montgomery's wens om Amerika te zien, gaat eindelijk uitkomen. Ze gaat een bezoek brengen aan haar broer Rylan en zijn vrouw Colleen. Ze hoopt dat ze in Amerika kan blijven en daar haar geluk en liefde zal vinden. Eenmaal aangekomen ontmoet ze een intrigerende jongeman die die droom misschien wel kan waarmaken. Pas als haar broer haar gebiedt bij Adam O'Leary uit de buurt te blijven, beseft Maggie dat de man Colleens broer is die net uit de gevangenis komt. Adam O'Leary heeft zich altijd het zwarte schaap van de familie gevoeld en zijn tijd in de gevangenis heeft dat idee alleen maar versterkt. Alles wat hij nu wil is het goed maken met zijn familie. Hij had nooit gedacht dat hij ondertussen liefde zou vinden. Ondanks wanhopige pogingen om hen uit elkaar te houden, krijgen de twee een band die niemand nog kan breken. Maar is Adam wel echt veranderd?
