Pleinen zijn bij uitstek plekken in de stad waar 'het gebeurt'. Revolutiesbeginnen er. Er wordt gefeest, gevochten enherdacht. De onafhankelijkheid wordt er uitgeroepen of juist neergeslagen. Ervinden demonstraties plaats maar ook is het de plek waar de markt gehouden wordt. Pleinen zijn er in verschillendesoorten, maten en vormen. Sommige zijnaangelegd, andere zijn spontaan ontstaan. Sommige zijn kaal en leeg, anderezijn zo volgebouwd dat je het plein bijna niet meer ziet. Maar één ding hebben ze gemeen: ze hebben allemaal hun eigenverhaal.
