Het gat in de klok De oorlogsherinneringen van Nelly Steeghs Nelly Steeghs (1935) was 4 toen de oorlog in mei 1940 uitbrak en 9 toen in september 1944 de geallieerden Liessel bevrijdden. Helaas was die bevrijding van korte duur. Eind oktober waren de Duitsers weer terug. Dit is haar verhaal, van twee keer moeten vluchten. De tekst is door Jeroen Koppes (1981) verder uitgewerkt en voorzien van historische context. Koppes is verbonden aan STIWOT (Stichting Informatie Wereldoorlog Twee) en schreef eerder voor het tijdschrift Wereld in Oorlog. In 2018 verscheen het boek 'Een Helmondse Kwajongen' van zijn hand, met daarin de oorlogsherinneringen van Gerrit Manders. Dit boek gaat over het dagelijks leven van een gezin uit Liessel. Begin 1944 kwamen er twee Duitsers langs op zoek naar vader Steeghs. Nelly werd gedwongen de Duitsers het hele huis te laten zien, wetende dat haar vader op de hooizolder zat.
