Dorp aan de frontlinie

Piet van Els hield van september 1944 tot juni 1945 een dagboek bij waarin hij het laatste oorlogsjaar nauwkeurig en indringend heeft beschreven. Een verhaal over hoe de Duitsers terugtrokken uit Noord-Limburg, maar vooral over twee hachelijke avonturen waarin hij en de rest van de familie terecht kwamen: zijn deportatie naar Duitsland om tewerkgesteld te worden, de beschieting van de trein waarin hij vervoerd werd en zijn ontsnapping. En net een week weer thuis, moest de familie evacueren omdat Wanssum in de frontlinie kwam te liggen. Pas vier maanden later keerde de familie naar hun gehavende huis terug.
