Rients Aise Faber De reis van Tiesema

De reis van Tiesema Jan Douwes Faber (1844-1930) werd in het leven genadeloos afgerekend op de valse start die hij als smid maakte in de buurtschap Snakkerburen nabij Leeuwarden. Door alle tegenslagen in het nauw gedreven, maakte de gelegenheid in 1880 een dief van hem. Hij pleegde een opzienbarende inbraak te Goutum bij de familie van een der opkopers van zijn smederij. Daarvoor had hij reeds door veelvuldig drankgebruik het contact met vrouw en kinderen verloren. Na een vijfjarige gevangenisstraf verdween hij spoorloos in 1887. Pogingen van zijn kinderen om hem terug te vinden, mislukten. Anno 2012 kon zijn reis door het leven worden gevolgd, dankzij internet en de digitalisering van archieven. Met inlevingsvermogen en verbeeldingskracht schrijft Rients Faber over deze voorvader.
