Al jaren hadden auteur Marjan van den Dorpe en haar man het plan om Nederland te verlaten. Maar waar ze zich zouden vestigen was nog niet gelijk duidelijk. Na veel voorbereidend werk, het bezoeken van beurzen en zelf op onderzoek gaan, viel de keuze op Spanje. Begin 2009 kwam de verhuiswagen voor en werden alle spullen ingeladen, om tweeduizend kilometer verderop uitgeladen te worden in Caudete, zo'n zeventig kilo- meter ten westen van Alicante. In dit boek vertelt Marjan alle belevenissen over de verhuizing, inrichting van het huis, de nieuwe omgeving en bureaucratie. Maar ook over lokale feesten en gebruiken. Een boek voor iedereen die als 'extranjero' (buitenlander) in Spanje woont of wil gaan wonen, of gewoon een liefhebber van dit bijzondere land is.
